i´m using a labtec 5500 usb cam with comes with 1 meter usb cable. it´s a very simple camera, no features exept microphone build in. the cable is too short for me.
whats the maximum working lengh of an usb cable?
Whith cable lengh do you use?
what about power lan?

"Official" maximum length is 5 meters. With Logitech cameras I start having intermittent problems if I use more than about 2 meters. Logitech cams have very high power requirement though - a more simple cam may be okay at full 5 meters.
You can extend beyond 5 meters using a powered hub.
PC --> 5m --> Hub --> 5m --> Cam
Or you can buy various "USB Extender Cables" (it is a cable with hub functionality built into one end) made by Belkin and others. I have used them and they seem to work okay. But they cost more than a cheap hub, so...

The best please I have found for cables is Monoprice.com
I'm currently using a 32 foot USB extender that Monoprice sells for $8.46

Just to see how far this would work... I went to a 49 foot Monoprice repeater, then added a 10 foot cable, followed by the 6 foot cord to the camera.
So over 60 feet and still working fine.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of cam do you have out on the end of that 60+ feet of cable?
The ultimate test of a USB extender is to put an Orbit on it. Get the Orbit streaming, then use the PTZ, and then abuse the PTZ. On a lot of cheap extenders the Orbit works fine until you use the PTZ, at which point it does a spontaneous unwanted reset due to power droop.

you may use as many active(!) extenders as u need - but think about the limitation to 500mA on your USB port!
